Makes me wonder though, has anyone setup a cab using a phone, or tablet ? given mini-hdmi output and something like this: it's very doable, extremely low power use too.
You can connect most Bluetooth gamepads to Android without needing Root access, though for a PS3 controller it's a different story.
I have a similar thing I bought on ebay, but it is basically a Bluetooth controller, with a bracket built in. Actually I now have some spare controllers to do it again since my second PS3 died on Sunday. I used to use the sixaxs app with my phone hooked up via HDMI to my tv at home, works quite well. If you are using the sixaxs $ app then yes you need root, if you have paired it using standard bt pairing you do not but the controller operates differently than with the app. I should put up a thread about it in so more people can see it.when playing mame on it I often think how amazed I would have been if I had of seen this back in the 80's when I was playing my Manhole Game and Watch :) In here you will find complete collections of rom sets, sometimes also with an automatic easy install.
Yeah it's great for portable gaming, works for most Android games, mame games look fantastic on my Samsung S6 and people who see it often ask about it and where I purchased. 139 Mame set is also very commonly used as is 0. The holder is a quality product and holds firmly, but only in landscape, to play vertical games I can balance the phone in the holder and play but it's just sitting there and could fall out if you get carried away and start swinging it about :) The other commonly used rom sets for handheld and tablet devices is 0.37b5 and 0.139 which we also have here. My phone is "rooted" I can't remember if you need root access to set up the controller Bluetooth, I think you do, instructions are on the website anyway. Ive been working on setting up the same emu and rom sets as I had built up on windows ten years ago but still looking for the mame 139.u1 set. The Mame 0.139 rom set is most commonly downloaded by users of MAME4iOS or Gridlee and those with iOS, iPad and iPhones. That is my first and so far only custom made purchase that has been made with a 3D printer, I bought it from and I bought a secondhand PS-3 controller from eBay especially for it. What is holding the phone to the controller?
